Interview With Ramzi Naim - Lebanese Sprinter
Ramzi Naim (Antonins), born in 1990, is the holder of 17 titles of Lebanese Champion since 2004 and 7 Lebanese records that made him the first Lebanese man who has the biggest number of records in Lebanon. Last week, at the individual championship, he went into history, winning 3 gold medals (100m, 200m and 400m) in one championship.


How do u Feel after this historical triple win?
Exhausted.. I Don't feel anymore!

How did you get started with Track and Field?
At school, back in 2003 after winning a medal in the Cross Country.

What else do you or did you do other than track?

I used to play Basketball from 2000 to 2006, and Football from 2004 to 2006.

If any one person or group has inspired or motivate you excel and continue track, who is he/she and what has he/she done?
Till now.. No one.

What is your typical daily life routine like?

Wake up and smell the coffee.. the rest depends.

What is your thoughts before a big race?

Go get'em. It depends if I am going for the win or just going to sma
sh my Pb. And if both happen! its the icing on the cake.

What is the most memorable run of your career?
Shattering the National Youth (Under18) 200m Record in Amman on October 27th 2007.

What is your Ultimate long term goal?

2012..2016..maybe 2020 Olympic Games.


Goal for this year?

Sub 11 in 100m, Sub 22 in the 200m, Sub 35 in 300m and a Sub 49 in 400m.

How do you prepare before a meet?
Pick a race plan and stick with it.

During training, per week what is your routine like? for example per day how many time & how many hours?
I train on a daily basis, 1h30 to 2hours a day! Sundays are not always OFF days.

Do you do most of your training alone or as part of a group?
Almost Alone.

Do you have any interest in coaching or other involvement in sport after you stop competing?
Sure!


Do you feel that your country provides sufficient support for athletes?
No support at ALL.

How long do you intend to compete at the top level?
No one knows..

Any injury plaguing you before?
Only minor injuries.. no serious ones!

Do you take care of your nutrition?

NO! You're in Lebanon!

So in training what aspects of the sprint or training program are you focusing more now?
A whole different new concept.. Results will appear in late 2010.

Who are you main opponents/rivals this year?
Me, Myself and I.

Have you ever had thoughts to quit?
Yes, but these thoughts did not last more than a minute.

Have you ever tried to run away from practice? or skip practice?
Never, practice is the best place to kill yourself.. In another word, push yourself to the limit.

Any advise for young athletes venturing into track n field?
Train hard all winter, that's how it pays off in the summer!
