The Lebanese Open Club Championship 2012
The Lebanese Open Club championship starts Wednesday 29 at 4:30 PM at Notre Dame de Jamhour Track, Jamhour; and ends this Friday 31 at 7:30 PM.

On the first day, two records were broken: Sara-Jo Kortbawi ran an astonishing 800 meters finishing second behind Saria Traboulsi and clocking 2:18.78!! At only 13 years old this young girl is taking a road that no one at her age had ever taken! We should wait and see where the road will lead her.. The performance made by Kortbawi allows her to set not only a Bantam and midget record, but also a youth one. It will be just a matter of time for Korbawi to break the juniors' record of 2:15 and the seniors' one of 2:14. On the 3rd and last day of the Championship, Sara-Joe broke again the 1500 meters record. It's becoming a habit, every time she improves herself she break another record!

When interviewed by TFS  and asked how she did it and if she was expecting to improve her performance by 4 seconds and finish "with" Saria on the finish line, Sara-Jo said: "I knew that I'm going to better my performance, but I thought I'd improve my mark by 2 seconds not 4! And when I was running I thought that if i sprint no one can reach me because the 1st lap was very fast and everyone was already tired. I didn't expect to finish with Saria and place 2nd; I thought I would finish with Sara Awaly and place 3rd!” When we asked Sara-Jo what is her dream and what she is working for after her amazing achievements she said: "Of course I dream of an Olympic podium and to be the 1st Lebanese to do this achievement", and if she's ready to work very hard to do this despite all the sacrifices she will face in the future, she answered: "I'm still young and I still prefer having fun to training but soon when I’ll grow up and I’ll understand and learn the importance of the sacrifices to reach my aim." Very wise words from a 13 years old, good luck Sara-Jo! And a great work by Elie Saade her coach.

The second record was made by her teammate Krystel Saneh who, at the last jump, set 5.55 meters, a new Juniors record. She was 5 centimeters away from the Seniors Record of 5.60 meters held by Rania Stephan.

On the second day of the Lebanese Open Clubs Championships, another girl from Champville had to break records again.. her name is Sandy Karam and she's new at what she does: Race Walking! The 16 years old had to walk 5000 meters, she clocked a 30:52:8 New youth record! But at her passage on 3000 meters she improved her record by 2 minutes clocking a 18:10:9! Another Youth record!

We asked Sandy few questions after her race: Sandy, how did you turn from Middle distance to race walking? And are you satisfied with what you have done today?
"I turned suddenly to race walking, it happened when I first walked in the Youth West Asian Championship that held in Lebanon, and my coach Elie Saade found out that I was good at it. I didn't take it seriously at the beginning but now I am. I can say that I'm satisfied with the 2 new records but I was aiming for a better time."
How far you think you can go with Race walking and what are you aiming for?
"Personally I still don't know how far I can go but I know that I will  be going as far I have to. Right now I'm just aiming to always do better and improve myself, and I'll be working for the World Youth Championship of 2013. Step by step we can go very far."

Congrats!
