When the first half of this fruitful year is done, some athletes have marked their disciplines by their footprints, others are still preparing for major championships and the rest is preparing a surprise!
- The Lebanese age Group Championship: Sprint dominated by Champville in girls and CSJ in Boys: This is the major championship for young athlete to appear and prove their presence by their talent. Some of them just did. We were attending some athletes to break records, 3 of them just did it, but the rest is so close to the glory. A half year just passed, the second half is still to be discovered.
Let's start by Bantams, aged 12 and 13: Nour Mouaness (Champville) smashed the Lebanese bantam records for 60 and 120 meters scoring respectively 8.47 and 16.29 seconds; Sarah-Joe Korbawi (Champville) who also broke the 2000m Lebanese record for bantam and midget category clocking 7:09.21, she was close by 0.4s from the 1000m record, she will certainly have the chance to try to beat it again. These were the records of this category, now we must see the athletes who appeared to be unbeaten in some events and have realized great performances and were close to records: Ricardo Ghosn (Maristes Jbeil) first in 60m and long jump (5.01m); Korine Freiha (CSJ) first in high jump (1.37m) and Shot Put Nathalie Mouawad (Champville) 10.45m.
Midgets aged 14 and 15: No records were set in this category, but hopefully soon they will with Anthony Mickael (CSJ) in sprint, he ran the 80 and 150 meters in 9.79 and 15.72 seconds receptively, while Christelle Rahme (Champville) ran the 80 and 150 meters in 10.82 and 20.15 seconds. Joelle Feghali (CSJ) was as usual running and winning middle distance runs but we also saw her in Long Jump where she realized an amazing performance jumping 4.75 meters! Her sister Karen also run middle distance runs and won triple jump; these two talented girls will probably appear one day in heptathlon. In shot put, Alian Saad (Maristes Jbeil) was winning again and again, throwing 13.93m in 4kg. Finally Elias Makhoul (Phoenicia) was dominating middle distances, the 1000 and 2000 meters.
Youth aged 16 and 17: The only record set in this category was the one of Krystel Saneh (Champville) with 5.30m in Long Jump which is also a Junior Record. Pierre Sarkis (CSJ) appeared to be unbeaten in sprint, running the 100m in 11.54s, and Daniel Bassous (CSJ) also unbeaten in 400 and 200 meters, clocking 52.22 and 23.85 seconds, while the best young footballer in Lebanon Philippe Paoli (Champville), was close behind them. Lory Tashjian (Champville)won both events the 400 meters which is her specialty and the 200m. The sprint domination of Champville finally ended with Krystel Saneh on 100m. In middle distance, Makram Chahine (Antonins) is there to end first in 800 and 1500 meters and Sarah Awalli (Phoenicia) first in 800m, while Lea Iskandar from CSJ won both 1500 and 3000 meters. In jumps, Ali hallad won the high jump competition with 1.72m, and Tony Mallah (Champville) surprised with 5.88m in Long Jump. Sarah Bechara (Champville) was dominating shot put and discus throw.
Juniors aged 18 and 19: In this category, where the number of athletes is getting lower and lower, some of them are still there to give their best and impress, like Maha Al-Mouallem (Ansar) who is giving her best season ever this year, by running a 12.44s alone! Without anyone to challenge her, and the 200m in 26.36s. Raphael Samaha (CSJ) back from injury, he realized a double in 200 and 400 meters, and Mohammad Hannouf (Inter-Lebanon) conquering the middle distances, winning the 800 and 1500 meters. In jumps, Merry Samrany (Batroun) jumped 1.54 in high, and Marc Ward (CSJ) 6.35m in long.
CSJ was dominating the relays from the 4x60 metres to the 4x400m, but only lost the medley relay in youth category, where the girls from Champville won the race by 8 seconds from CSJ.
- AUB 110th Field Day: Hazer improving in high and sprint! The spotlights were putting on Ahmad Hazer (Ansar) during the 110th AUB Field Day, where he clocked 10.6h on 100m (1st) and jumped in scissor 1.87 meters! An amazing performance for Hazer who is the record holder of the juniors decathlon! Others, like Ali Hallal (Antonins) and Ali Saleh (Inter-Lebanon) improved their PBs, Hallal jumped 1.80m and Saleh 6.57m, and while Carine Bouchakjian (Champville) appeared for the first time this year clearing each height and winning as usual the high jump competition. Gretta Taslakian (Inter-Lebanon) ran the 400m where behind her was Aziza Sbeity (CSJ) who was running for the first time the one lap, and scored 59 seconds!
- Romania International Meeting: SBs and PBs for ones and more experience for others: Ahmad Hazer (Ansar), Maha Al-Mouallem (Ansar), Gretta Taslakian (Inter-Lebanon), Ramzi Naim (Inter-Lebanon) and Krystel Saneh (Champville) were chosen to compete at the International Meeting organized by the Romanian Federation at Constanta. Ahmad Hazer ran his first 110m Hurdles since the end of 2009, scoring a season best of 14.49 seconds, and 22.52 seconds on 200m (PB). While Maha Al-Mouallem is having fun performing, establishing two personal bests on 100m with 12.41 and 200m with 26.15s. Gretta Taslakian didn't run her ideal 200m but its still a n average start for 2011, with 24.46s and 4th in finals. By the way Gretta was planning to run the 400m and suddenly told to run the 200m, which in my opinion affected her psychically while she was prepared mentally for the 400m race. Ramzi Naim clocked 49.71 seconds on 400m (SB), while Krystel Saneh wasn't that lucky in jumps but scored the 3rd best of 2011 with a jump of 5.26m.
PS: sorry for the delay.
