2010 was a fruitfull year for the track and field in Lebanon. We saw great comebacks, like in sprint Gretta Taslakian, and the best high jumper ever Jean-Claude Rabbath. We have also seen new faces and youth athletes who fast became champions. Finally, we have seen a large number of records beating, at total of 31 records, while in 2009 the total of record beating was only 18 record.
New Athletes:
We should mention Abdallah Chahine, a Hammer thrower who came from the United Sates especially to throw here in his country of origin, Lebanon. AB, as we call him, didn't just come here to throw, he also beat the Lebanese record of 50.19m set by Victor Hajj-Moussa in 14 July 2000. The record is now improved by 3 meters and is today 53.18m.
Youth Athletes:
Other than AB, we saw little kids who have the international level of athletics like Sarah-Jo Cortbaoui who's only 12 years old and had won the first place in 1500m in the L

Makram Chahine Just broke his second individual record in two days!! On 18th December he broke the 1000m Lebanese Record for Midget Category who did last for 11 years, and now he break the 2000m Lebanese Record also for Midget category! This young man just entered history just like Khodor Adbo did 11 years go, it's Makram's time, by smashing Khodor's records of 1000 AND 2000 meters! Makram's time of 1000m is 2:40.70 and 2000m is 6:03.65.
Next year, Makram will turn to Youth category, where we also expect great performances from him.
Again, Congratulations Makram!! It's just the beginning!
The opportunity given bu CSJ (Club Sportif Jamhour) by organizing the 28th December, an end of the season meet, for those who will turn to a new category in 2011. The only one who took this opportunity, was Markam Chahine (Antonins), a 15 years old, who smashed the old record of Khodor Abdo in 1000m for Midget category (14-15). Makram ran the 1000m, accompanied by Abdo Helou, his team mate who was Makram's rabbit for this distance, so the young man scored 2:40.70, the old record was 2:40.8h (manual).
We're waiting for tomorrow, for the last meeting in 2010, to see Makram in 2000m, and maybe see another record beat!
Club Sportif Jamhour (CSJ) is organizing this December: Tuesday 28 and Thursday 30, two meetings for the end of 2010 season, giving the last opportunity for those who have to beat some records before turning to a new category in 2011.

On Saturday 4 December, the Half Marathon had been lunched by the Lebanese Athletics Federation, from Saraya Jbeil to Fouad Chab Stadium-Jounieh, on 21,100m. More than 100 runners from all different Clubs were attending this Championship, where also, the British Ambassador Marry Gay and a large number of foreigners were attending this event.
We have to mention that Arine Kassabian who took second place in her category after Melissa Risk, is only 17! And she also won 4th place over all!! A fruitful future is waiting Arine in long distances!
The Lebanese Track and Field site "Athletics Performance", just added a new menu which is "Athletes Results". Other than having all results of the meetings and championships, local and abroad, Athletics Performance offers you now the possibility to access and read all athletes' results as of 2007
(and for some, results as of 2005 and 2006). So that you have the access to the general history of athletes much easier!
Athletics Performance: "While all athletes should be on the list, it comprises, for now, and for
practicality of execution related issues, Lebanese athletes who are
both in the top 10 of a discipline and having over 700 points as per the
IAAF scoring tables (the 2008 table onwards to the current one), for
both men and women. The list will hopefully be expanded to include all
Lebanese athletes."
Ousama Naddaf (Army), was for many several years the Lebanese Champion and the Lebanese leader in Triple Jump. During these years, he was many times close to the national record of Daoud Srour (Army) with 14.62m (record break in 2001), by jumping 14.60m and arround 14.50m. On October 15th and 16th, in Aleppo - SYRIA, he finally break the Lebanese National record by jumping 14.64m! He beats a 9 years standing record. This quite and modest champion deserves it! Ousama have the potential to break his own record next year, in 2011. Best of luck Ousama and Congrats!
By 0.03second on 200m, Gretta Taslakian was so close to take Bronze medal in the Asian Games! She finished in 4th place with 23.90s (SB), while the one from Uzbek runner who took 3rd place clocked 23.87s! She was so close to set a new achievement in her athletics' career, but to run this year a sub 12 in all her races and to break the 24s barrier, is an amazing achievement for Gretta who sets 3 National records on 60, 100 and 400m in 2010, when before that, in 2009, she had to stop due to her knee injury. We're seeing a real Ultimate Come Back from this champion.
The best is yet to come Gretta, this 4th place didn't bring you Bronze medal, but it is leading you for much better than that!
So far, the Arab participation in the 16th Asian Games is quite fruitful! From Sunday 21 November to Saturday 27, Arab athletes got 10 Gold medal, 6 Silver and 11 Bronze medals, for a total of 27 medals in track and field! This is a great improvement in the Arab track and field level in comparison with their fellow Asian neighbors!
Gretta Taslakian, our Lebanese athlete ran a 11.84s in the qualifying round, breaking her National Record of 11.85s. In the semi-finals, Gretta clocked 11.87s in the 100m, taking 6th place. Unfortunately that wasn't enough for her to qualify to the final round. We must mention that Gretta has been running sub 12 all season so far! At 200m, Gretta clocked 24.01s (SB), took 2nd place in her hear (2/3), and have qualified for the final! We hope that she would break the 24s in the final and get close to her National Record of 23.56s! Jean-Claude Rabbath passed the qualifying round with 2m15, and then, in the final, he scored 2m10 and was placed 11th. We should mention that JC is the first and only Lebanese to have won a Gold medal in the Asian Games! Ali Hazer didn't compete in the 10 eve
